At one point or another many of us have either cared about what other people thought about us, have been a people pleaser, or have allowed naysayers to block the path to us moving forward. I totally get it. But what I don't get is why some people continue that way of living to the point that they are not even living the life they desire to live, because they are living the life that others desire for them to live. There is nothing wrong with taking some advice from others, especially when it is done out of love and concern, but don't allow people to put you in a box. Who has time for that? Life is so precious and so sacred, and at the same time so short that we can't afford to waste any of it living within the framework of the opinions of others. Guess what? People are always going to have something to say. So if they are going to talk you might as well be living a life that makes you happy, right?
Do you want to live an easy life or a difficult one? I know, it's a worthless question because who wants to live a life filled with pain and suffering? Yet, this is what many people choose every day, whether they are conscious of it or not. I don't intend to disparage them, however in coaching hundreds of people over the years, many of them unknowingly choose a difficult life because they make easy choices instead of important ones.
Considering this, think about the choices you're making right now and their respective actions. Are they moving you towards growth and freedom or pain and suffering? Easy choices means staying within our comfort zone without exploring our limitations where real growth occurs. Sure, it's difficult to venture outside our comfort zone because of the psychological and emotional strain. Balance is less about how much time you schedule for each sector of your life than it is about how you approach activities energetically. For example, if you follow up an ambitious, sales-oriented day at work with a game of handball, then engage in home remodeling until bedtime, you are not allowing yourself to relax, reflect and simply be.
