5 Ways to Feel More Positive in 10 Minutes

By Michaela Barnard

I often have people say I am always positive, like I was born with it or it's just part of my personality. But what you should know is that being positive is a choice - a weekly choice, a daily choice and an hourly choice. Through the journey of personal development, remembering that we always have a choice has been a game changer. Every moment I choose to be positive, feel positive or see the positive and the exciting thing is, if you're a human and have a heartbeat, you have a choice too!
I've put together these five ways you can feel more positive in ten short minutes and change your attitude for the rest of the day:

1. Gratitude
2. Feed your soul good news
3. Make a to-do list
4. Walk outside
5. Smile

1. Have an attitude of gratitude

You may have heard of it, but a grateful heart can't be an unhappy heart. Grab a piece of paper and scribble down 3-5 things you are grateful for right now. Whether it's your heart that beats without you telling it to, the colours of the sunset or the fact that coconut chocolate exists - whatever it is for you, write it down NOW.

2. Feed your soul good news

Switch off your TV. Stop scrolling Instagram and Facebook and feed your soul some good news. Head to positive.news or goodnewsnetwork.org if you're up for reading some uplifting content or head to YouTube, search 'Kid President' and let yourself feel good.
Good news is everywhere!

3. Make a to-do list

Make a to-do list right now. Write down 1-3 things that are a kink in your day right now and get them done. Whatever it is that you have been procrastinating or secretly ignoring hoping it will go away, get it out of your life now. Need to start on that report? Open the word document. Need to make a phone call? Dial the number. You will feel a weight lift off your shoulders once it's done and will feel more positive crossing them off your to-do list.

4. Walk outside and be present

Take yourself outside and observe what's around you. Feel your body in the space and notice what's around you - the trees, the noises, the wind. Take a moment to realise that the trees are the very thing that provide us with oxygen to breathe! Hello, isn't that crazy!! What an absolute blessing that nature keeps us alive.

5. Smile

Simple. Smile and remember what a blessing it is to be alive. Smile and remember that we always have a choice. Smile and remember that everything is working in your favour.
Make the choice today to be positive.
