From Little Things, Big Things Grow!

Image
By Jennie Gorman

Songs have been written on this title about social change over the years and the saying was not new in the 1900's. For me, I see this as a great quote for small business people who start out with very little and with courage and determination go ahead and create their passion into a business that they are proud to own.
Great things may come from small beginnings as we find with small business owners. An essay within in 1798 by D.Everett in The Columbian Orator says: "Large streams from little fountains flow, Tall oaks from little acorns grow." So as we can see, this is a concept that has been around for a very long time!

A more familiar quote is "Mighty oaks grow from little acorns" or "Great oaks from little acorns grow" no doubt rings a bell to most readers. Again, saying that sometimes small and modest can become very large and impressive with time.
We start our business initially by using the skills we have learned. The most important…

There is no beauty without struggle (Part 2)

Image
By Sergei Vanbellinghen

Struggle Transforms into Beauty

You see the success that brings the money and the attention. In other words, you see the visible signs of opportunity and prosperity. You compare to the struggle in your own life, but you are grasping at an illusion. What allows for such dramatic changes are the things that occur on the inside of a person and are completely invisible.
So, the beauty is the slow accumulation of knowledge and skills, the incremental improvements in work habits and the ability to withstand criticism. Any change in people's fortune is merely the visible manifestation of all of that deep preparation over time.
The answer, the key to the ability to transform struggle into beauty is insanely simple. You have to reverse your approach. Stop fixating on what other people are saying, doing or thinking. And end the focus on the money, the connections, or the outward appearance of things.

The Beauty is Looking Inward

Instead look inward! Focus on the smaller in…

There Is No Beauty Without Struggle

Image
By Sergei Vanbellinghen
In the course of our life, we have to agree that there is no beauty without struggle. No one likes to hear the story of someone who got everything easily. People want to listen to the stories of men and women who, while born in the valley of struggle, endured pain and turned their battles into a gift.
So, how can you get stronger?

What can you do transform struggle into beauty? Do you want people to look up to you? Or do you want people just to feel sorry for you?
Today or tomorrow, you might feel frustrated. Maybe your dreams are not a concrete reality yet. Your life or career may somehow have taken a wrong turn. But to change that, the first thing you have to do is to search within yourself. So, I will tell you a quick story about my unusual path of change and transformation from battles to beauty over the years.
If I relate this tale, it is because it is relevant to the subject of struggle, change, and beauty. The story begins as I knew from a very young age that…

Contenders - Motivational Video

"Every human in life has what it takes to get past what they're going through - if they decide to"

We all face those times in life when life's obstacles and circumstances seem to be resisting us, testing us to our limits, to varying degrees of difficulty.  For some it's the temptation to simply accept the mundane and not chose to do what it takes to achieve the kind of life that they're capable of.  For other's it's going through catastrophe and heartache.  But, if there's one thing we all need to know, it's that we all have what it takes within us to make it through.  We just need to be reminded of it.  That's what inspiration really is; it's when someone who's gone through stuff before you, has succeeded and now has turned back to remind you that you also have what it takes to make it through, just like they did.  God has put in you all you need to be in order to be who you're made to be.  This video is here to remind you of t…

X Is For Xanadu

Image
Xanadu represents a place of great beauty, luxury and contentment according to Dictionary.com. How often do we feel that we are in our own Xanadu? Your work space may not be luxurious but is it a place where you can work at your peak performance? Is it designed for functionality but not personality? Does it scream "I want to get out of here" or is it more of a place that sets you up for success?
Look at your home. Some may not have total control over the layout, decor, etc. due to renting or other living situations. They may share a place with a roommate, a spouse, parents, or even in-laws! Regardless of that, do you find contentment when you come home or is it more of a structure with four walls that you really don't like?

Have you thought about your car as another type of Xanadu? The average person drives 37,935 hours in their lifetime. That's about 798,000 miles with vehicles that you enjoy being in or ones that are so messy and disorganized that you can barely get …

Command Joy by Putting a Pause on the Partying

Image
Note from the editor:   This article traces the steps of someone who became addicted to a substance, let it take over her life, and was left with massive regrets.  I urge you not to be put off by the initial seeming negativity of the story line, because it finishes on a high note.  The moral of the story-the story of whatever it is we can become addicted to-is the lesson that we can create our own joy; we don't need to give ourselves away and become slaves to anything else in order to find it.  I hope you'll feel empowered by Erin's story...

By Erin M

As a kid growing up, my Mother was the only person who really truly deeply had my back. Through the years I spent going to gymnastic classes, at dance recitals, sporting events, she was always there to watch me. ALWAYS. She never missed a performance, a game, a show... her kids were her world and she put me in first place in her life. She believed in me and told me I could be or have whatever I wanted. When I would come home cr…

Stop Waiting for Life to Happen | Peter Sage | TED Talks

Image
What's the most important app you need to download to-day?  Facebook? linked-in? Peter Sage asks...His answer?  None of the above.  He suggests the most important thing we need to learn to download is unconditional love.  It's a concept that is often alien to us, whether it is in relation to our perception of others towards us, or how we relate to ourselves.  But since love is the commodity we need most in order to function, thrive and succeed in life; that makes it the most valuable.  So, if we can understand how to get more of that most treasured of possessions in an unlimited and unconditional flow, we'd be smart to understand how don't you think?

In our upbringing and our interaction with society, we're often not taught the concept of unconditional love, but that is exactly what our hearts silently yearn for.  So, here's a video you'll not want to miss :)

Enjoy!

How to Do 3 Impossible Things Before Breakfast on a Zero Budget

Image
By Debbie A Johnston

My inner guidance was clear that I had a new mission, so I made three (award-winning, as it turned out) feature films in three years with no money to start with, no cell phone (I don't want an electronic leash, thank you!) and no film school. How? I imagined myself doing it and I stepped into the water. Yup, I just started casting roles, telling everyone I didn't know when we'd be filming, but I wanted to be ready. I started scouting locations and got a lot of them for free. I called non-profits to partner with them for premieres or screenings. In short, I did everything I could that didn't cost a dime, but I also imagined and believed. I knew I had a mission and I wasn't about to let reality get in my way, because I already knew the drill (See below). The money came, and eventually, even a Hollywood film distributor.

Previous to that I had published a booklet that a book distributor said was impossible to sell in bookstores (due to no spine) and…

The philosophy of Stoicism - Massimo Pigliucci

Image
Those of us that are passionate about self-development and self-help understand that the quality of our lives is determined greatly by our thought patterns and attitudes.  The philosophy of stoicism centred heavily on this and other ways of thinking that enabled people to cope with and prosper in the midst of very harsh and difficult times in their lives.  As one of the Stoic's said:

We suffer not from the events of our lives, but from our judgement about them - Epictetus

In this video Massimo Pigliucci homes in on these ideas to explain why the stoic's believed it was possible to stand up under pressure and thrive regardless of their external circumstances.  Training our mind's to think in a psychologically empowering way can mean the difference between enduring our lives or 'enjoying' them which results in positive knock on effects in the lives of those we connect with.  I hope you are enjoying your life!

To your success!!

5 Tips to Take Control of Your Mind and World Using Affirmations

Image
You are a powerful creator. We all are. Every day with the thousands and thousands of thoughts that run through your head, you are creating your reality. If you are not happy with any aspect of your life, you have the power to change it. That's right, you, and only you, have the power. So, why hasn't anybody ever told you this before? It certainly wasn't because they were keeping a secret from you. Most likely, it was because they didn't know.

Don't think that you are capable of manifesting anything?
Think about all the different thoughts you let roam freely in your mind. Those thoughts can range from "do they like me?" "Do the kids have any activities after school today?" "Oh no, I hope my co-workers don't ask me to go to lunch" or "why don't my co-workers ever ask me to lunch?" "I don't know why you got promoted, I deserved that promotion." Just think about what a busy place your mind is. Only you know t…

Do You Have A Big Dream And Don't Know Where To Start?

Image
By Suzette Vearnon

What do you do if you have a big dream and don't know where to start? This is going to sound strange. In fact, it's going to be quite counterintuitive.

Get still.

Go somewhere and sit down. Yes, sit down. Take time to process this big dream that has tapped you on the shoulder and enlisted you. Suppress the inclination to dive head first into busyness. Instead, take time to get your bearings. Tune into your inner voice to hear the heart beat of your dream and what your unique gifts, talents and skills bring to it.

Get educated.

T.D. Jakes, in his book Instinct, cautions us to get acquainted with our new surroundings. Find out the law of the jungle before announcing to the world, "I'm here! It can mean the difference between surviving or getting eaten by a lion. It's not because you are defective or you are on the wrong path. Life simply wants you to succeed so it gives you time to get ready.

A mentor is a great place to start!

Self Love Isn't Selfish! Daily Practice of These 9 Things Will Enrich Your Life

Image
By Nicole Lawler

Self-love isn't selfish;

it's necessary in creating your own personal bliss. The most pure foundation for building any relationship is to have it based on love. Loving the self is no different. Truly you can only love and accept others to the extent that you love and accept yourself. And an important key to raising your energy vibration within is to embody a high level of self acceptance.

Research show that physically cleaning the clutter from your home, a room or your office helps one to be more productive and successful. This holds true for mental cleansing, as well. Practicing self-love is a mental cleansing of sorts. It will help you to clear out your consciousness, much of the old programming, that does not serve you to the highest good, with ease and grace. Self-love is so important because the root of almost any illness, relationship problem and financial challenge has come from an aspect of you, that you do not love and accept fully.

The skill of self confidence | Dr. Ivan Joseph | TEDxRyersonU

Image
So how's your confidence level?  Maybe you're flying high with a self-belief that you can do anything you put your mind to...or, maybe the 'inner critic' never stops chirping away inside your head and telling you all the reasons you can't do this and that.  I have some good news.
If you're someone who suffers from this, don't think that this is just the way you are and there's not that much you can do about it.  Did you know that self-confidence is a skill which can be learned?  It's true.  I've sourced this video for you because I believe that the practices Dr Joseph teaches in this video can be absolutely life changing.  The principles can be learned and put into practice by anyone no matter what challenge is looming in front of you, whether it's a job interview or the start of a new business.  I'm not going to tell you what those principles are, that'd only spoil it ;)  You just need to watch it for yourself. Hope you enjoy the n…

Importance Of Failure

Image
By Amemah Farooq

Failure is a word that no one wants to hear. It is the biggest fear of a human being yet it is faced by every human being on earth at least once in their life. We need to learn how to deal with this word 'failure'.
A lot of people in this world give up on their lives just because they couldn't achieve something they desire. People ignore the fact that failure helps the man to distinguish what he did wrong.
Here are some tips which can help you get into the positive side of life and change the failure into victory.

1. SAY NO TO GIVING UP

Before starting anything that you think will give you success, promise yourself that you will never give up if you failed at this particular task. This promise to self makes your mind ready for both failure and triumphs. But what if you didn't do that in the start? Then always remember that it is never too late. If you think that now you can do nothing or you are over, you are just making an excuse.

10 Morning Routine Habits of Successful People

Image
We've all heard the sayings 'start as you mean to go on', and 'fail to prepare means to prepare to fail'.  How true these are in relation to how we begin our day.  If our day is going to be successful, where we feel like we've achieved something of significance - that we're another step closer to meeting our long term goals in life - we need to make sure that we start our days with purpose and good preparation.  If we are physically and mentally set up for the day, we are giving ourselves a much greater chance of having a successful day.  This video gives some great tips on how to do just that.  We really hope you enjoy it!  To your fulfilment!

Where Do You Spend Your Time? Past, Present or Future?

Image
There are three places where you can live your life:

1. In the past - People who have regrets and are "stuck" thinking about things that cannot be corrected often experience depression. Some therapists believe that anger turned inward becomes depression. So, when you combine past hurts with anger but pretend that everything is okay you are setting yourself up for trouble! It is like trying to hold a beach under water. You put all your energy into trying to hold it down but that won't last for very long. You can try to hold your emotions down but when they pop up everyone, including you will likely be surprised by their intensity.

2. In the future - Fear, control, perfectionism, worry and anxiety are all cousins. Sometimes people focus all their energy on what hasn't even happened yet. Their fear causes them to want to control things and often leads to perfectionism, worry and anxiety. "What if... ?" is a frequent phrase used by individuals who tend to focus o…
